Australia Votes: Time to act on sex-based rights

It’s time for us to stop gender ideology and the damage it’s causing.

What damage has been caused so far?

What damage has been caused so far?

It is illegal in Australia for biological women to have women-only spaces. That includes toilets, changing rooms, women’s shelters and prisons.
Lesbian, gay and bisexual youth - even heterosexual girls - are being told they’re they’re “born on the wrong body”, all because they don’t follow stereotypes of what a girl or boy should do, say, or like.
Youths who don’t follow along wth those stereotypes are being groomed into having their puberty blocked and are being treated with synthetic hormones of the opposite sex.
Lesbians are being pressured into relations with males who “identify” as females.
Children as young as pre-school age are being exposed to the exact ideology that is allowing all of the above to happen.

This Federal election, we can truly turn the tide. With the recent ruling in the UK Supreme Court that the word ‘woman’ only refers to an adult, biological female, this is our chance.

We can return to reason, return to sanity, and return safety to women and children Australia-wide.

But we need your help.

To date, the Australian Election has been silent on fundamental issues of:

Rights of women to have women-only spaces
Rights of lesbians to free association
Protection of young people from the harms of the gender industry
Free speech to advocate for sex-based rights

We need your help to put candidates on notice that these issues matter in this election.

As a voter and supporter of LGB Alliance Australia, I am writing to urge you to address the distinct needs of lesbian, gay and bisexual Australians in law reform and public policy issues.

Harms to Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual youth

I seek to raise concerns about a new cultural phenomenon causing irreparable harm to youths in this country - a wave called: ‘gender dysphoria’.

This phenomenon is a social contagion, rapidly proliferating throughout Australian families all over the country. It's not at all unlike the waves of anorexia, bulimia and cutting that gripped youth - primarily young girls - of the 90s. This, however, is worse.

This psychosocial phenomenon is leading to the deliberate medicalisation of otherwise healthy, bright, young people.

The pace at which these medical treatments are being offered is alarming. Such treatments include irreversible puberty blockers and synthetic hormones, the former of which has been proven to lead to osteoporosis and stunted physical development. Other treatments include direct surgical interventions - such as double-mastectomies on perfectly healthy young girls, and vaginoplasties on boys - leading to a lifetime of damage and, in many cases, a lifetime chained to expensive pharmaceuticals.

Current Federal and State policies regarding treatment in clinical settings endorse "gender affirmative care" approaches, a contentious model of care no longer supported in the UK and several European countries, due to community concern and lack of evidence as revealed in the UK’s Cass Review.

This treatment harms emerging same-sex attracted young people. Why? Because of their everyday behaviour, or even their personalities, which don’t fit in with stereotypical sexed behaviour. This perfectly describes nearly every single LGB youth.

Arguments that suggest gender affirming care prevents suicide are not supported by current evidence.

Research indicates that varying degrees of gender nonconformity are normally experienced by many same-sex attracted young people, without progression to long-term gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia and insistence on sex change.

I urge, please, an immediate halt to these practices, pending the outcome of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) review. This is a growing mental and physical health crisis with specific implications for LGB youth, as well as any child who does not conform to stereotypes of what a girl or boy should like, do, or say.

Loss of sex-based rights for LGB

The 2017 Marriage Equality plebiscite was a landmark achievement, affirming dignity and legal recognition for lesbian and gay relationships. However, the embedding of gender identity in law has since eroded other rights. While we can now marry, our ability to gather in same-sex public spaces is being denied. Single-sex venues and events—vital for community, mental health/wellbeing and relationships forming—are increasingly framed as discriminatory.

If you are elected to the Federal Parliament, I ask you to protect the rights of LGB Australians by supporting the following initiatives:

2. Uphold sex-based rights as a cornerstone of equality. 
3. Halt Gender Affirming Care for minors pending the outcome of the NHMRC Review

5. Gather data on policy conflicts between gender identity and sex-based rights. 
6. Ensure targeted funding for LGB community needs. 
7. Expand legal and holistic health support for those who cease or reverse their transgender identification or gender transition, temporarily or permanently.
